Members joined us for an extraordinary IVY Culture Night featuring Washington National Opera’s performance of Madame Butterfly, one of the most treasured operas of all time. In this eye-popping staging of Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini’s immortal tragedy, a dashing American naval officer chooses a naïve young geisha to be his bride, only to betray her — leading to one of the most devastating and legendary final scenes in all of opera. WNO’s dramatic production is elevated by the dazzling sets and costumes by Jun Kaneko, whose kaleidoscopic designs for 2014's The Magic Flute left audiences spellbound. This special evening also featured the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performance, showcasing current and former Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists in nearly all of the major roles.
