Members joined us for an unforgettable IVY Culture Night featuring Swan Lake, the romantic fable of ill-fated passion, dreamlike transformation, and ultimate forgiveness set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score. With breathtaking choreography and visually magnificent sets evoking a Renaissance court, The Wall Street Journal proclaims American Ballet Theatre’s production “glides to the forefront of stagings all over the world. The fabled lake of the swans has risen into view, inspiring awe for its mystery and magic.”
The performance featured Misty Copeland in the coveted title role of Odette/Odile, who made history in 2014 as the first black woman to perform the role during the company’s inaugural tour to Australia. She again made history in June of 2015 when she was promoted to principal dancer, making her the first African American woman ever to be promoted to the position in the Company’s 75-year history.
Before we took our seats for the performance, we enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink in the Founders Lounge and gathered for a pre-show talk about Swan Lake with IVY’s Arts and Culture Director, Phil Chan.
