NY: Ideas Night - Paul Bloom @ Baruch College - Baruch Performing Arts Center

Join us for fascinating IVY Ideas Night on The Perils of Empathy: How To Make Ethical Decisions featuring world-renowned Yale University professor of psychology and cognitive science, Paul Bloom! In this illuminating discussion, Paul will call to question our culture’s current focus on empathetic thinking and argues that it distorts our judgment in every aspect of our lives. As part of our conversation, Paul will share insights from his groundbreaking scientific research to demonstrate how we can limit our empathetic tendencies and draw on the role of rational compassion to develop clearer, fairer, and more ethical decision-making methods in our everyday lives. Following the discussion, Paul will stick around to answer questions one on one and to sign copies of his latest book, which has been hailed by The New York Times as an “invigorating, relevant and often very funny re-evaluation of empathy.” We’ll enjoy complimentary wine, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and inspiring conversation with a great group of IVY members both before and after the talk.
