SF: Culture Night - Smuin Ballet @ Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

Members joined us for an extraordinary IVY Culture Night as we enjoyed an evening of cocktails, conversation, and entertainment with Smuin Ballet, world-renowned for their evocative and original performances. We began the evening with a pre-show reception, enjoying an open bar and delicious hors d'oeuvres with a great group of IVY members and young professionals from Smuin Ballet (including our very own SF IVY member, Ben Needham-Wood). Then we headed over to the theater for a public pre-show talk led by Artistic Director and Ballet Master, Celia Fushille, who led an illuminating conversation on Smuin Ballet’s exciting new program.

Following the pre-show talk, we took our seats for the performance, which featured a world premiere by American choreographer, Trey McIntyre, hailed by The New York Times as “one of the most important choreographers working today”; a world premiere by acclaimed choreographer Nicole Haskins; and Amy Seiwert’s Broken Open, a stunning work declared by the San Francisco Chronicle as “fresh, challenging, and relevant.“
